Jewelry Care

We believe that our jewelry should be worn every day and last a lifetime. Some wear like nicks and scratches and even tarnishing will likely occur with use; It is the nature of the material, and we feel like these marks become part of the memory of the piece, a sign of the ways you have loved it. The jewelry will patina over time, many of our customers love the depth this adds to the metal, but we understand if you want to keep your jewelry bright and shiny.  Here are some tips to keep our jewelry looking beautiful.

Our metal is a natural and earth-derived material. It is not plated with metal or plastic coating to keep it from environmental reactions. It will likely change over time, this is the nature of organic materials and we feel it often adds to the character of the piece.

Sterling Silver:  Tarnish can occur when it comes in contact with the oxygen in the air. The best way to keep your silver from blackening is to touch it and wear it. The oils from your skin add a layer of tarnish resistance. For deep storage, it is best to use an airtight container. If you do see some tarnishing, you can polish it with a jewelry polishing cloth, or wash them frequently with normal soap and a soft toothbrush, after that sweep them with a soft cloth and keep them in their cases.

Bronze : The copper content in bronze can cause it to darken over time. This is primarily due to a reaction to water and humidity. Some people, depending on their personal PH balance, experience a green coloring to the skin when it comes in contact with bronze. This is perfectly safe and is again due to copper, If you prefer to avoid the dark patina to the metal, try to keep your bronze as dry as possible. Don’t swim in it and dry it after washing your hands. In humid climates keep the bronze in an airtight container.  For a bright shine, it is easiest to use a commercial polish to restore your piece to its original luster. You can also soak the jewelry in ketchup. The acid in the tomato will help to remove tarnish.
